Atomic Energy Centre, Chattogram

1973, February - BAEC established by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib to support national economy by taking active role in Public Health, Food, Agriculture, Education, Industry and many other sectors. 1986, April – Nuclear disaster occurred at Chernobyl NPP near Pripyat, Ukraine and triggered the release of substantial amounts of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere. 1987, October - BAEC started working to control and regulate the levels of radioactivity in food and allied materials through establishing ‘Radioactivity Testing and Monitoring Laboratory (RTML) at Chittagong Medical College campus. 2013, October- AECC was inaugurated 2014, June - RTML, Chittagong merged with the AECC

Director Message

It is with great pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the Atomic Energy Centre, Chattogram (AECC). As the Director of AECC, I am honored to share our commitment to the peaceful use of atomic energy for the socioeconomic development of our beloved country, in alignment with the vision and mission of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).

At AECC, we take pride in our research endeavors, fostering collaboration with national and international partners to advance scientific knowledge and contribute to the betterment of society. Currently, we house two state-of-the-art laboratories: the "Radioactivity Testing and Monitoring Laboratory" and the "Analytical Chemistry Laboratory," where cutting-edge research is conducted with precision and dedication.

We are excited to share that AECC is expanding its horizons by establishing additional laboratories, including a Nanotechnology Lab, Health Physics Lab, Microbiology Lab, and more. These facilities aim to enhance our capabilities, fostering effective research collaboration with universities, research organizations, and international bodies.

Our Mission

1. Ensure safety of food and environment from radioactive contamination;

3. Promote R&D activities on environmental issues

4. Expand cooperation with other scientific organizations, universities, private and public sectors through mutual exchange of educational programs, training, technical cooperation and expert services;
