Safe food and environment are essential for our living. Presence of radioactivity in food and environment results severe external and internal hazard to the human health. The government of Bangladesh has imposed to test and control the level of radioactivity in food and other allied material imported from different countries of the world according to the Import Policy 2021-2024 and NSRC Rule-1997, SRO No. 205-Law/97.
Discover peace of mind with the Radioactivity Testing and Monitoring Laboratory (RTML) at the Atomic Energy Centre Chattogram (AECC), a pioneer in ensuring the safety of our nation's food supply from radioactive contamination. In accordance with the NSRC Rule-1997, SRO No. 205-Law/97, the RTML meticulously monitors the levels of radioactivity in imported and exportable food, as well as allied materials. Bangladesh, being a significant importer of food from various countries, recognizes the critical importance of controlling and regulating radioactivity levels in all food items. Since the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear power reactor accident in 1986, the nation has taken proactive measures to safeguard its citizens. In October 1987, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) established the RTML in Chittagong, marking the beginning of a dedicated effort to assess and control radioactivity levels in food materials. This initiative aims to protect our population from the potential harmful effects of radiation, exemplifying our commitment to public health and safety. A designated test fee is required to pay according to the gazette approved by the Government of Bangladesh.
